Welcome to the Department
of
Economics
Economics
is the science of choice. It studies how people choose to use scarce or
limited productive resources, to produce various commodities, and to
distribute these goods for consumption. In other words, economics asks
what goods are produced, how these goods are produced, and for whom they
are produced. Economics has become increasingly important in recent
years and is concerned with a wide range of problems such as the causes
of unemployment and inflation, productivity of economic growth,
international economics and the role of government in free market
economies. The main goal of the Program leading to the Bachelor of
Science degree in Economics is to give its students a firm foundation in
modern economic theory, a basic descriptive knowledge of the Turkish and
of the world economy as well as the capability of quantitative analysis
and research.
The program is composed of two parts : During the first two years, the
program aims to give students a firm background in economic theory
within a general social context including such analytical tools as the
mathematics and statistics to prepare them for more specialized and
quantitative courses in the last two years.
