INT 110 -
Introduction to Politics
(3.0)3
This course aims
to introduce the students to the basic concepts of Political
Science, such as political systems, power and politics,
legitimacy, division of power, democracy and the relations
between government and the governed, interest groups,
nationalism and the nation-state.
INT 102 -
History of Political Thought (3.0)3
This course
presents the ghistorical origins of political thought, with a
focus on issues relevant to the study of International
Relations. In the process, the students will be introduces to
topics from the academic disciplines History of Political Ideas,
Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Science.
INT 103 -
Diplomatic History I (3.0)3
Starting with the
Vienna Congress of 1814 the diploamtic relations between the
European Powers and the Ottoman Empire in the 19th
Century will be analysed. The policies of Great Powers of Europe
with regard to the Ottoman Empire and the main factors
influencing these policies will be studied. The political
developments and the main ideological movements in Europe and
the reformist movement in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th
Century; Ottoman-European diplomatic relations prior to the
First World War and the developments leading to the First War
will be taken up.
INT 104 - Diplomatic History II (3.0)3
This course is the
continuation of the INT 103. The main developments leading to
the First World War; the First and the Second World Wars, the
aftermath of these two wars will be taken up and the major
diplomatic developments in Europe until the 1960s will be
studied.
INT 201 -
Introduction to International Relations (3.0)3
This course is an
introduction to international relations, and thus aims to
introduce fundamental concepts, theories and institutions of
international politics within ints historical context. It is
designed to make students familiar with the main structures of
international systems and thus help them to understand the
discipline of international relations.
INT 202 - International Politics (3.0)3
It is the study of
developments in the international system in accordance with the
knowledge acquired in INT 201. Relations between national and
international relations and their impact on foreign policy are
scrutinized. The developments taking place since the Second
World War and especially during the post-Cold War are studied
within the framework of international theories.
INT 203 -
Political Structure of Turkey
(3.0)3
Relations between
the ruler and the ruled, main political institutions such as
unions and political parties in Turkey, outstanding political
currents, political problems and proposed solutions are among
the topics to tackle.
INT 204 - International Relations Theory
(3.0)3
The course aims to
teach a comprehensive history and development of the
international relations theory, with a special emphasis the most
important theories of international relations from a
philosophical and scientific angle. Given that theoretical
approach is essential for understanding the world problems and
developments, the course will not only underline the importance
of the theoretical approach but also will examine some important
examples of the internatonal relations theories from three
perspectives such as realism, pluralism and globalism.

Research Methods (3.0)3
The purpose of
this course is to give some basic guidelines for the students
who, most probably, have no or little knowledge about how to
conduct a research when writing a course paper, or an article or
an essay both during and after their university life. So the
objective is to teach basic steps and methods during the
research process.
INT 206 -
Ottoman Diploamtic History
(3.0)3
Diplomatic history
of the Ottoman Empire from its start until the collapse of the
Empire will be explained taking into consideration the
political, economic and social conditions of the Ottoman Empire
during each stage and emphasising its diplomatic relations with
the Eurpopean Powers.

International Law I (3.0)3
This course is
a comprehensive introduction to public international law, which
introduces the student to the nature, major principles, norms
and institutions of the international legal system, the relations
between municipal and international law. Several topics will be
considered such as Sources and Nature of International Law,
History and Theory of International Law, Treaties, States and
Governments, International Organizations.
INT 302 - International Law II (3.0)3
It is the
continuation of INT 301. The characteristics of the legal
personality of states, their relations with individuals within
and outside the country and topics such as marine, aviation and
space law are handled.
INT 303 -
Turkish Foreign Policy I (3.0)3
The Turkish
foreign policy at the establishment of the Turkish Republc; the
main foreign policy issues between the years 1923-1945 and the
factors affecting Turkish foreign policy in this period; the
characteristics of Turkish diplomacy and the structure and
organisation of the Turkish Foreign Ministry will be studied.

Turkish Foreign Policy II (3.0)3
Turkish foreign
policy from 1945 until today will be analysed. Turkey’s
relations with Europe, the USA and the South America, the Middle
East, Russia and the Far East in this period will be studied in
detail.
INT 305 -
International Organisations (3.0)3
A comprehensive
study of the development of international organisation and its
role in world politics. The central part of the course deals
with the world-wide international organisations such as the
League of Nations and the United Nations in particular, with
special emphasis on their history, structure, performance and
prospects, both in the maintenance of peace and in the economic
and social field. Specialised and regional organisations are
also treated on a comparatvie and descriptive basis.
INT 306 -
European Union
(3.0)3
No political
system or organisation can properly be understood unless it is
set in its historical and operational contexts. Though a
relatively new organisation, the European Union (EU) is no less
subject to these dictates than are long established
nation-states and, like them, its nature cannot be appreciated
without reference to its historical sources or to the world in
which it functions. Keeping all these in mind, this course
provides an analysis of the EU with its historical development
and its institutional structure. The attitudes of governments,
political parties and interest groups towards the
decision-making mechanism and policies of the EU will also be
taken up. An important part of the module will be devoted to the
Turkey-EU Relations by discussing past and recent developments.

Contemporary Politics of the Middle East (3.0)3
The Middle East
has been the center of world politics since the First World War
especially because of the oil resources, foundation of Israel
and the Islamic Revolution in Iran. The relations of outstanding
regional countries on bilateral, regional and global levels are
analysed.
INT 308 -
Human Rightsin Global Politics
(3.0)3
The study of human
rights within its historical context, main approaches, universal
documents, the question of compliance with international human
rights standards and its position in international politics.
INT 309 -
Contemporary Politics of Europe (3.0)3
This course aims
at providing the students with an understanding of the
fundamental changes in European international politics from the
Cold War up to the present, with focus on the situation that has
emerged in Europe after the end of the Cold War.
INT 310 -
Comparative Politics (3.0)3
Historical and
contemporary political development of the modern nation-state
systems will be comparatively examined. The structure of the
modern state is divided into social, governmental and political
dimensions, and examined comparatively. Finally, policy-making
processes and performances of the modern states are evaluated.
INT 311 -
International Politics of Latin America (3.0)3
This course is
designed to give an idea about the third world countries and
their political economy and the development strategies to become
a part of industrialsed world.
INT 312 -
International Politics of the Balkans
(3.0)3
The first section
of this course covers the modern history of region from 1804 to
1991, with a focus on the post-WWI era. The second covers the
developments of the last decade, with an emphasis on the causes
and effects of nationalism. Together they provide the students
with a basis on which to understand the present developments in
the Balkans.

Diplomatic Correspondence I

As a preparation
for the Turkish Foreign Ministry entrance exam, writing
techniques and diplomatic terminology will be thaught in
addition to other diplomatic formalities and rules of protocol.
INT 402 -
International Political Economy

It studies the
foreign trade and the distribution of income, economic
integration and its political implications and the impacts of
technology on foreign trade. In addition, international economic
institutions and their impact on South-North relations are
analysed.
INT 403 -
Diplomacy in Theory and Practice

This course is
designed to equip the student with the general framework and
principles of the diplomacy within the historical context of the
contemporary international system. It is also aimed to show how
to implement the rules of diplomacy in practice.

INT 405 -
American Foreign Policy
(3.0)3
This course will
focus on the history, patterns and trends of American foreign
policy. In addition, American foreign policy objectives will be
evaluated in the light of its global engagement after the Second
World War. Finally, a special emphasis will be given to the
external and domestic influences on the formation of the
American foreign policy during the Cold War.

Current Issues in World Affairs

Topics such as
globalisation, global warming, regional integration movements,
energy and human rights as a supranational question are studied
particularly since the collapse of the Soviet Bloc.
INT 407 -
International Politics of the Caucuses and Central Asia

The course is
aimed to study the history of the countries situated in Central
Asia and Caucasia since the Soviet dominance in 1917. Their
political and economic relations and the integration attempts in
the region following the collapse of Soviet Union will be also
examined.
INT 408 -
Private International Law

This course deals
with the basic concepts and rules of private international law
and the international arbitration that is quite important for
the national developments and integration of Turkey with the
international community.
INT 409 -
Developing Countries in World Politics (3.0)3
This course aims
at providing the students with an understanding of the
challenges and dilemmas facing the less-developed countries in
the global political system. Different theories of development
will be examined, both theories with a focus on the global
economic system, and those with an emphasis on domestic
conditions in the countries in question.
INT 410 -
International Politics of Africa
(3.0)3
The aim of this
course is to introduce the students to African Politics. It
focuses mainly on territorial disputes, and domestic and
regional disputes. Finally, economic development in Africa will
be a vital issue to be discussed.
