ECON 101 Introduction to
Economics I
Focuses on development of
basic theory of demand, supply, and market price. Explores applications to
selected microeconomic problems, such as basic monopoly and competition, and
other issues that relate to the role of the pricing system in resource
allocation and income distribution.
ECON 102 Introduction to Economics II
Introduces macroeconomic
analysis. Topics include the flow of national income, economic growth, and
fluctuation, the role of money and banking, and monetary and fiscal
policies. Emphasises the development of conceptual tools to analyze the
economic problems facing modern society. Prerequisite: ECON 101 or consent
of the Department.

The Limit Concept, The

ENG 101 Development of Reading and Writing Skills I
Developing reading and writing
skills with review of grammar and structural patterns. Development of
vocabulary and speaking skills. Selected readings from literature to improve
comprehension.
ENG 102 Development of Reading and Writing Skills II
Continuation of FE 101 with
emphasis on writing skills. Writing technical papers and reports.
Development of presentation techniques. Further readings from literature.
COMPE 103 Introduction to Computers
An overview of
information technology. Hardware and software components. CPU, peripherals,
I/O devices, primary and secondary storage units. Data communications,
networks, and Internet. Word processing, spreadsheets, presentation
graphics, and Internet applications.
COMPE 104 Computers & Information Systems
An overview of
computer systems. Software concepts: operating systems, and programming
languages. Introduction to problem solving, algorithms and programming.
Writing simple macros. Data Base Management concepts: data organization,
data base design, and querying. Introduction to QBE and SQL.
PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology
An introduction to general
theories and methods of psychology; basic concepts and research findings in
major areas of psychology, such as perception, learning, cognition and
emotion.
LAW 201
Introduction to Law
A general introduction to the idea of law. Social life and the law.
The need for order. Necessity and importance of law. Definitions. Legal
rules and other rules of conduct in society. Basic concepts of private law.
Division of public and private law. Branches of private law.
LAW 202
Business Law
Introductory course on the legal environment of business. The course covers
such subjects as: merchants, their rights and obligations; contract agency;
legal forms of business; negotiable instruments; insurance law; maritime
law.
SOC 102 Introduction to Sociology
Sociology is concerned with
the study of whole societies and the way in which their various parts are
connected to each other. This course attempts to give
a picture of the society we live in and the main transformations we
experience in the society. After explaining the main theoretical
perspectives, certain key issues in sociology are going to be focused. These
issues are chosen in accordance with the occupational interests of the
Department of International Relations students.
TURK
101 Turkish Language I
This course
is designed as a survey of Turkish Language and its place among other
languages. Its phonology and punctuation will also be studied through
reading of literary texts.

This course
aims training students in expressing their ideas and feelings clearly, and
to help them in using oral and written Turkish correctly by the use
articles, seminars and research theses.

MGMT 201 Introduction to Business I
Basic concepts and principles
of the environmental and historical setting of business; the organizational
evolution of the business enterprise, both structural and legal;
differentiation of business functions and rationalization of business
operations.
MGMT 202 Introduction to Business II
Basic concepts and principles
of management; the functions of planning, staffing, directing and
controlling, and their relationships to key issues in management practice
such as leadership, motivation, and communication. Prerequisite: MGMT 201.
MGMT 203 Principles of Accounting I
The course is designed to
provide students with an understanding of accounting as an information
system with the skills to appraise and manage a business. Students are
introduced to the accounting cycle, the financial statements, and the theory
underlying accounting as an information system.
MGMT 204 Principles of Accounting II
The course helps students to
apply the concepts and skills obtained from ACCT 201. In this sense
accounting with its functions such as identifying the business transactions,
recording and reporting them in the financial statements, interpretation and
decision making are to be discussed and the students are familiarized with
financial accounting. Prerequisite: MGMT 203.
MGMT 205 Cooperatives and Cooperative Management
This course covers topics
relating to cooperatives and current issues in cooperative management. The
course is enriched with applications in this field in order to make students
understand some issues more clearly and precisely.
INT 101 Introduction to Politics
Political systems, power and
politics, legitimacy, social contract, self-determination, nationalism,
nation-states, interest groups, elections, political parties, democracy and
relations between government and the governed are handled.
ECON 308 European Union and International Environment
After a brief introduction to
globalization and regionalization in general, the major emphasis is placed
upon regional economic integration in the European Union (EU). The progress
and problems of Turkey’s association with the EU, the analysis of
comparative economic indicators and policies of Turkey and the EU, Turkey’s
achievements and problems in adapting to common policies of the EU and other
issues associated with Turkey’s full membership.
MGMT 301 Marketing Management
Provides training in marketing
decision making. Uses case studies simulating actual business settings to
help students to develop analytical abilities. Topics covered range from
techniques used to analyze a market to the development of a total marketing
strategy (product policy, pricing policy, promotion policy, and distribution
policy.)
MGMT 302 Human Resources Management
Helps students develop
understanding of contemporary issues in human resource management. Examines
problems posed by changing work patterns, labor force characteristics, union
activities, and government policies. Discusses and evaluates organizational
experiments such as worker participation, job enlargement, and group
incentives from a managerial perspective.
MGMT 303 Organization Theory
The concept of organization;
formal organization; organizational dynamics and effectiveness;
organizational development and change.
MGMT 304 International Business
Focuses on the broad cultural,
economic and political aspects of domestic and foreign environments and
their effect on the international operations of business firms. Topics
include the principles, patterns, and potential of international trade and
investments; and the development of management strategies for international
businesses.
MGMT 305 Cost Accounting
Develops understanding of the
critical role of cost measurement in business decisions and in managing a
firm’s profitability. Studies alternate ways of measuring costs to meet
different management objectives, the role of budgeting as a planning and
management tool, and the use of cost analysis as a control tool to help
management meet short-and long-term profit objectives. Prerequisite: MGMT
204
MGMT 306 Marketing Research
Focuses on the survey research
process and the analysis of data using SPSS. Covers topics such as problem
definition, research design, sampling, questionnaire design, data collection
and data analysis.
MGMT 307 Corporate Finance
An introduction to the finance
discipline and corporate managerial finance. Financial administration,
including expense control, budgeting, credit, protection against risk,
investment analysis and portfolio management. Decisions relating to working
capital, major capital investments and financing.
MGMT 206 Organizational Behavior
Explores the effects of
individual, interpersonal, group, and leadership factors on human behaviour.
Also explores managerial applications of behavioural and social science
concepts, including job design, job satisfaction, performance appraisal,
supervision, and organizational change.
MGMT 309 Taxation and Turkish Tax System
This course introduces the
basic concepts and principles of taxation. Course also covers the historical
development of taxation, current tax system and all kinds of taxes.
MGMT 310 Financial Markets and Institutions
Explores the financial
environment faced by a firm as well as the financial institutions serving
the economy. Discusses the forces that determine the changes in money and
capital markets and explores the implications of changing financial
environment for the management of funds in a firm and /or financial
institution.
MGMT 401 Managerial Accounting
Introduces students to
managerial accounting concepts and analysis reports and decisions through
class discussions, exercises, and demonstration problems. Specific topics
covered include the statement of cash flows; cost management and behaviour;
cost-volume-profit analysis; and other quantitative data in managerial
planning and control. Prerequisite: MGMT 305.
MGMT 402 Business Policy
Focuses on corporate strategy
and its elements, including an analysis of the company, its resources,
opportunities, environment, and decision makers. Emphasizes decision making
and implementation of strategy while operating a company in the context of a
business simulation.
MGMT 403 Management Science
Introduction to business use
of operations research with stress on such quantitative decision-making
process concepts as linear programming, simulation, and
modelling. Students participate in computer based managerial
simulation, providing for decision-making in the areas of accounting,
finance and banking, marketing, production, personnel and general
management.
MGMT 404 Production and Operations Management
Considers the productive
system of an enterprise whereby inputs of technology, materials, personnel,
and information are transformed into useful goods and/or services.
Introduces the types of problems and issues encountered by the operations
manager. Discusses various models and techniques but emphasises problem
formulation and managerial implications.
MGMT 405 Management Information Systems
The course stresses the value
of information as an organizational resource; covers system development
methodologies, systems analysis, design, implementation and evaluation,
prototyping, data communications and database management.
MGMT 417 Managerial Economics
Application of economic
analysis to the solution of business management problems. How, in terms of
economics, business firms make decisions on price, output, investment, and
related matters and some of the consequences of such decisions.

407 Business Ethics
This course provides an
in-depth analysis of the moral responsibilities of a corporation and its
employees. It analyzes the relationship between individual rights and the
free market. Also examined are the ethics of advertising, individual and
corporate responsibility, and obligations to future generations.
MGMT 408 Small Business Management
How to start and manage your
own business. Discusses types and locations of business; legal organization;
accounting and taxes; obtaining capital, controlling inventory; setting
prices; staffing; insurance and cost and sources for specialized assistance.
MGMT 409 Entrepreneurship
Introduces entrepreneurship,
focusing on the following questions : What is entrepreneurship and how do
you become an entrepreneur? How do you find or create ideas that might
become businesses? How can you determine if the ideas have merit in the
marketplace? How do you start a firm that, from the beginning, is market
oriented and focused on what customers need and are willing to buy? Gives
students an opportunity to conduct detailed evaluations of new business
ideas.
MGMT 410 Strategic Management
This course aimed at providing
an opportunity for students to integrate materials covered in their previous
core and supporting courses. The course focuses on the development of skills
in identifying, analyzing, and solving realistic business problems. Develops
a framework for understanding and managing the complex interrelationships
that exist among strategy, structure, culture, control systems and
management style, and their impact on the organisation’s performance.
MGMT 411 Management and Innovation
The objective of this course
is to provide prospective managers with the practical and theoretical
backgrounds with which to design and evaluate strategies for innovating,
acquiring and integrating new technologies into the workplace, and enhancing
employee creativity.
MGMT 412 Insurance Management
The aim of the course is to
provide an introduction to the actuarial philosophy and the actuarial
scientific method. Emphasizes the functional area of corporate risk
management. Covers such areas as organising and controlling the risk
management function; identifying, measuring, controlling and financing risk;
selecting the best method of risk treatment; and implementing and monitoring
risk management.
MGMT 413 Negotiations and Bargaining
Focuses attention on the
strategies and techniques employed in the negotiation process. The viewpoint
that manager is a negotiator is emphasized. Negotiation structure, planning
for negotiation; hard soft and principled types and distributive and
negative negotiations are analyzed.
MGMT 414 New Product Development
Focuses on the challenges and
decisions managers face in creating, developing, launching and managing new
products and services. Special emphasis is given to the stages of the new
product development process, the information needs in each stage, and
approaches for gathering needed information.

415 Public Relations
Presents the principles,
history and methods of public relations, processes of influencing public
opinion, responsibilities of the public relations practitioner, and analyses
of public relations programs.
