TOUR 106 Basics of Tourism Industry
The aim of this course is to give students an
introductory knowledge about the travel and hospitality
operations.
TOUR 202 Front Office Procedures
The aim of this course is to help students to
understand, organize, perform and evaluate the front office
functions, that are very important aspects to the success of
a hotel. This course examines complex relationships between
departments, technological advances, and unique front office
tools.
TOUR 203 Introduction to Hospitality Industry
The course introduces students to the
different components of tourism, emphasising terminology,
concepts and procedures used throughout the travel and
hospitality industry, with an overview of the organisations
and major operations.
TOUR 204 Food and Beverage Operations
The concept of this course is to guide the
students, who have decided to enter the hotel and catering
industry as a profession, through the basic stages of food
and beverage operations.
TOUR 206 Housekeeping
The objective of this course is to give
students not only profound knowledge of the technical skills
involved but also an understanding of the management of the
housekeeping department. It covers all aspects of
housekeeping.
TOUR 207
Introduction to Food and Beverage Service Operations
This course provides information for management decision
making within the hospitality operation. It is a study of
accounting processes for managers, for analysis, control and
planning in hospitality industry.
TOUR 208 Travel Industry
This course aims to give a general idea about
the organization of travel industry and it’s position in
tourism industry. For this will be studied the
intersectional relation in tourism, touristical product and
travel motivators. Tour market segments and types of tours
will also be covered.
TOUR 210 Tourism Geography of Turkey
This course is designed to give a general
idea about the formation of Anatolian Landscape.
Furthermore, it covers the brief history of Anatolian
civilisations and an account of the natural resources and
treasures of Anatolia. Most visited ancient ruins and
museums of Turkey will be mentioned as well.
TOUR 301 Hotel Accounting
Offers an advanced treatment of the
accounting function and addresses the unique needs of the
hospitality industry. It emphasizes the understanding and
preparation of hotel financial statements, through reviewing
the basic accounting concepts and procedures. Prerequisite :
TOUR 203.
TOUR 302 Tourism Legislation in
Turkey and Consumer’s Rights
General concepts of law will be introduced
in addition to national tourism offices and civil
initiatives in Turkish Tourism. Finally, encouragement of
tourism investments and consumer rights will be taken into
consideration. This course will be given in Turkish.
TOUR 303 Hospitality Accounting
Introduction to basic accounting concepts and
techniques; fundamentals of the accounting process and
preparation of basic financial statements; uses and
interpretation of accounting data derived from the operation
of an organization.
TOUR 304
Tourism Economics
This course provides subject / issues of economics in order
to understand and perform in tourism sector. Topic of
discussion in microeconomics are at the national level ,
Including: Inflation , unemployment, economic growth
theories, and as well as regional economic decisions .
Tourism multiplier effect is one of the many other subjects,
which are related to tourism industry.
TOUR 322 Turkish
Cuisine
This course will
enable the students in small groups to work in the kitchen
of the practice restaurant. They will have the opportunity
to, using the knowledge gained in food preparation.
Techniques, apply student recipes, prepare a selection of
Turkish dishes for service in a restaurant.
TOUR 306 Public
Relations and Tourism
This course will
be enable the students to plan and organize all public
relation activities of a tourism corporation with the
primarily the main public, such as customers,tour operators
,food and beverage suppliers, officiers, etc.
TOUR 321 Food and Beverage Management
Provides the student with a combined
classroom instruction and practical training for effective
management of food and beverage services in restaurant and
bar operations. Prerequisite : TOUR 204.
TOUR 323 Nutrition
science
The aim of the course is to present the
science of food and cooking, particularly the effects of
cooking on nutrients, texture, colour and flavour of food.
It aims at bringing together science and cooking by applying
a scientific approach to cookery.
TOUR 331 Travel Agency Operations
In this course, after a rapid repetition of
travel agencies’ organizational structure, the emphasis will
be given on the specialization areas of travel agencies and
their purchasing and sales activities.
TOUR 333 Ticketing
This course familiarize the student with
basic IATA rules and regulations, reservations, reservation
terms and sequences, ABC World Guide Airline Passenger
Tariff, issuing a ticket.
TOUR 401 Marketing in Tourism and
Hospitality
The objective of this course is to achieve
principles of sound marketing concepts in the hospitality
industry. Furthermore, this course gives student better
understanding of such basic business functions as sales,
advertising, public relations, promotions, and
merchandising.
TOUR 402
Managerial Accounting in Hospitality Industry
This course
provides internal and control techniqves, and analytical
perspective to evaluate the hospitalty industry .
TOUR 403 Business Communication
This course aims to provide better
understanding of purposes and processes of communication in
tourism and hospitality business. Furthermore it helps
students to have opportunities to improve and evaluate their
oral communication skills.
TOUR 404
International Tourism
This course covers
the marketing of tourism and the government involvement on
tourism policy planning and development .In addition, the
social, cultural and economic implication of tourism
policies and planning in the international contexed will
also be covered in the course.
TOUR 407 Area Project I
It introduces students to research methods
and area works. Students will be oriented to different
topics of tourism according to their interests.
TOUR 408 Area Project II
This course is a continuation of TOUR 407.
Students will present their industrial reports.
TOUR 421 Cost Control in Food and Beverage
Operations
The aim of this course is to give students
the financial side and the control of food and beverage
department.
TOUR 422 Hospitality Supervision
This course is designed to explain the
principles of supervision by referring specifically to the
hospitality industry.
TOUR 423 French for Catering
The aim of this course is to introduce
culinary French to students entering the catering industry.
TOUR 424 Banquet and Conference
Management
The aim of this course is to examine the
sub-department of food and beverage as its organization of
function catering.
TOUR 431 Tour Planning and Implementation
This course indicates the relationship
between the tour operators and groups. Furthermore it gives
the basic idea of tour planning and its procedures.
TOUR 432 World Tourism Geography
The objective of this course is to give a
general idea of World Tourism Geography.
TOUR 433 Alternative Tourism
The meaning of alternative tourism will be
given through the necessities and specialities
distinguishing them from the classical truistical products.
A classification and determination of alternative tourism
products will give new horizons to students.
TOUR 434 Tourism Transportation
The aim of this course is to learn how to
organize tourism transportation. Charter operations and
surface transportation will be examined.

SOC 101
Introduction to Sociology
Sociology is concerned with the study of
whole societies and the way in which their various parts are
connected to each other. This course attempts to give a
picture of the society we live in and the main
transformations we experience in the society. After
explaining the main theoretical perspectives, certain key
issues in sociology are going to be focused. These issues
are chosen in accordance with the occupational interests of
the Department of International Relations students.
PSYC 102
Introduction to Social Psychology
An
introduction to the nature and causes of individual behavior
in social events; to identify the factors that shape
behavior and thoughts. Topics cover general theories and
methods of psychology; basic concepts and research findings
in major areas of psychology, such as perception, learning,
cognition and emotion.
HIST 201 History of Civilization I
This class will trace the development of
Western Civilization by concentrating on political, social,
economic, and religious continuity and. There will be three
basic divisions in the course from The Ancient world to The
Middle Ages, from Middle Ages to Rise of Modernity and from
the Rise of Modernity to the Modern West. Numerous areas
will cover including the following: the First Civilizations,
Hebrews, Greeks, City States, Christianity, Modernity,
individuals influencing history and vice versa, rise and
fall of governments, long and short term causes for
important events, reasons for rise of “the West. When
finished, students should have a broad understanding of the
importance of Western Civilization within the modern world.
HIST 202 History of Civilization II
This class
which is the continuation of the HIST 201 will trace the
development of Western Civilization by concentrating on
political, social, economic, and religious continuity with a
special focus on modernity and globalization and also the
individuals influencing history and vice versa, rise and
fall of governments, long and short term causes for
important events, reasons for the domination of “the West. |
